[discussion] Sherlock 2×3

I think it’s about time I talk about one of my obsessions.

This is Benedict Cumberbatch and he is the most gorgeous human being to ever exist. He plays Sherlock Holmes in BBC’s Sherlock. If you haven’t seen Sherlock yet, you need to. I mean it. You NEED to see this show. There are only six episodes (so far). Go watch it. I’ll wait here. Come on back when you’re done.

Spoilers follow. You shall not pass…unless you’ve seen all of Sherlock.

I could talk about this show forever, but in the interest of being coherent and not simply repeating BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH IS THE MOST PERFECT HUMAN BEING over and over again, let’s talk about the emotional roller-coaster that was the end of season 2, and more importantly HOW THE HELL IS SHERLOCK STILL ALIVE.

Three Theories

1. It wasn’t Sherlock that jumped

Why this could be true: Sherlock asked for Molly’s help and she has access to dead bodies. Or it could have been Moriarty. Plus, we never see a full body shot of Sherlock standing on the ledge while he’s talking to Watson. And the buildings behind his head are kind of inconsistent, I think. Maybe.

Why this probably isn’t true: Benedict Cumberbatch was filmed falling and landing on the ground. The person falling was obviously moving his arms and was alive…before hitting the ground that is.

2. He landed in the garbage truck (and then rolled out onto the ground…)

Why this could be true: There was a garbage truck nearby. The doctors and nurses easily could have been in on it, either because Sherlock enlisted the aid of Molly or of his brother. Also, because Watson was hit before he could make it to the body, it’s possible it wasn’t his body on the ground and was replaced with a fake. Or…it was him and he used the rubber ball trick to stop his pulse.

Why this probably isn’t true: The garbage truck really didn’t look anywhere close to where the body was landing.

3. Magic

Why this could be true: NOTHING ELSE MAKES SENSE.

Why this probably isn’t true: Sherlock is all about that ridiculous science crap.

When the answer is finally revealed we’re all going to feel like idiots for not figuring it out.

I’ve always wanted a chance to use that gif 🙂 #dreamscometrue

  1. So sad! Yes, it has to be something to do with the lines of sight and that building between John and the sidewalk where Sherlock landed. I think Sherlock landed first on a rooftop 1/2 way down, and then fell again for the one we saw. Such a long wait to find out!

What to watch in the meantime? There’s nothing as intelligent.

    • megtao says:

Right?! Sherlock’s insistence that John stay where he is and keep his eyes on him must have something to do with it. A second rooftop would make sense, but John doesn’t get hit until after he’s landed, right? so wouldn’t he notice the second rooftop? (Same could be said for the truck though…)

I recommend Dr Who! You might also enjoy The Mentalist, though the characters aren’t nearly as entertaining.

Soooo… since I’ve only seen season 1 of this show, I didn’t read your post. But I did want to comment that I have become totally obsessed with this show and agree with you 100% about Benedict Cumberbatch; where has he been all my life?!

  3. *coughs* *mumbles into hand* I haven’t watched this yet… I don’t know where to find it…

  4. I can’t believe we have to wait for god knows how long to know the answer! I love the show and the second season was even better then the first one.

I know! It sucks waiting especially because we don’t know when to expect the next season. I have no idea how I’m going to watch it when it does come out since I don’t get BBC and megaupload is gone. 😦

  5. We don’t get much BBC stuff in Canada 😦 If I were back home, it’d be a different story – I grew up on a diet of British TV! I miss it too – they have some fantastic stuff. What channel has picked this up? We get some U.S. channels here.

    • megtao says:

Yeah, I’m Canadian as well so I completely understand. BBCAmerica might have it, but to be honest I watched Season 1 on netflix and I downloaded Season 2 from various links. I heard rumours that Season 1 is available for purchase on Itunes… Season 2 might be as well.

      • Oh sorry! I try to keep track of fellow Canadian bloggers better than that! 🙂

It sounds like I’ll have to wait on this one then. I don’t have netflix and I don’t have a way to hook the computer up to the TV etc. – all of that is way beyond my tech comfort level! I know, I sound old, but really it’s just that I don’t watch much telly. 🙂

    • megtao says:

      haha it’s alright XD ❤

I just read that Season 2 is available on dvd, so I'm assuming they both are. Of course, you'd have to find them or pay a buttload on shipping.

Hopefully it'll eventually come out on a Canadian channel.

Yes! #2 is my theory also! I thought maybe he’d jumped into the gargbage and rolled off the side with a bag of fake blood taped to one side of his face (which Molly had given him, along with a kind of drug to make him appear dead for the watchers and doctors who’d then send him to the morgue. Sort of like Juliet’s “death” in R&J). But then I watched the scene again and the garbage truck has wooden walls that prevent him from landing and rolling in it. But I did note that while you see Sherlock jump and fall, you never actually see him hit the ground. Also, I reckon the bump to disorientate Watson was done on purpose.

And I totally don’t understand why BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH IS THE MOST PERFECT HUMAN BEING BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH IS THE MOST PERFECT HUMAN BEING BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH IS THE MOST PERFECT HUMAN BEING BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH IS THE MOST PERFECT HUMAN BEING BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH IS THE MOST PERFECT HUMAN BEING BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH IS THE MOST PERFECT HUMAN BEING BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH IS THE MOST PERFECT HUMAN BEING BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH IS THE MOST PERFECT HUMAN BEING would seem incoherent. ANYONE who has seen Sherlock will understand!!!! :D:D:D

I’m so glad I’ve seen it now because they have only just started airing the ads for it here in Australia. I would have DIED if I’d had to wait any longer

    • megtao says:

Yeah, the bump was definitely on purpose. The biker basically swerved in front of him. It’s possible that Sherlock put a rubber ball under his arm to stop his pulse when Watson checked it, as he was playing with a rubber ball earlier in the episode.

LOL I KNOW RIGHT. IT IS TOTALLY COHERENT.

At least you get it though! I still haven’t seen anywhere around here to watch it. I don’t know what I’m going to do for season 3. Move to England I guess.

  7. Okay, so I saw Ginger’s post about you & your blog and stopped by for a creepvisit. I liked you more and more as I scrolled through your entries. Then I saw this. Oh, Sherlock. ♥ Yes, yes, yes. That sealed the deal. 😀 /new follower.

    • megtao says:

Ginger? I feel completely stupid because I don’t know what post you’re referring to. If you could link me I would appreciate it so I can thank them 🙂

I’m glad you like the posts! I was actually just thinking about rewatching Season 1 of Sherlock even though I should be studying… stupid youtube sucking me in with amazing fanvids…

      Welcome to my blog ❤

  8. CLG says:

Oh my God. I love this blog.
    SHERLOCK HOLMES IS JUST PURE.AWESOME.
I hate that there are just 6 epis. SIX.
God. I cannot WAIT for the next series.

    • megtao says:

I’ve heard that it’s going to take awhile for the next season to come out too because both Martin and Benedict are busy on other projects (i.e. The Hobbit and Star Trek) :*(
