Doctor Who Watch-a-Thon 3×13

This is a twice a week feature (Wednesdays and Fridays) where Christa of Hooked on Books and myself will be watching and discussing all of the reboot of Doctor Who. Posts will contain spoilers for that episode and ones before it, so you may want to watch the episode before reading. I hope you’ll join us in enjoying this fantastic show, and don’t forget to check out Christa’s post (with past posts over here) as well! Allons-y!

Stay tuned for daily Doctor Who recap posts as I play catch-up. Normal posting will resume after I have caught up.

The Last of the Time Lords by Russell T Davies

With the Doctor and Jack trapped aboard the Master’s ship, it’s up to Martha to discover a way to stop the Master who now has control of Earth and plans to destroy the entire universe.

When I talk about how all of the stuff Martha does is never shown, this is one of the episodes I’m talking about. For an entire year Martha walks through the most dangerous version of Earth we’ve ever seen, and the viewer only gets the tip of the ice berg of what she’s been through. In the end, no one except those on the ship remember everything that she sacrificed, everything that she did. I know this is Donna’s title, but I think Martha was just as much the most important woman in the universe as her.

A couple things I noticed on this rewatch: 1. I noticed that Lucy had some sort of bruise on her face. Is that a hint that the Master has been hitting Lucy? Is that why she betrays him in the end because I honestly never understood why she reacted so violently, except that he was flaunting his attraction of other women in her face. Also, did she seem kind of hypnotised to you guys?  2. The first time I watched this I thought the whole “think the word Doctor” thing was a kind of cop out, but now I realize that the power of words was brought up in The Shakespeare Code, so I am much happier with this solution.

Finally, the Face of Boe. THE FACE OF BOE. Boom.

  1. I totally forgot about the Shakespeare thing! That kind of changes my opinion on that scene now.
