[review] Pitch Perfect (2012)

When the Accabellas, the only all-girl accapella group to make it to nationals, lose all their members to graduation and any potential members thanks to… well, you’ll see, the two remaining Bellas must lower their aesthetic standards and find girls who can (gasp) sing!

Pitch Perfect was everything that I was hoping it would be and more: the trailer does not do it justice. The music was really fun and had me tapping my feet. There were moments where I actually lol-ed. I loved all the different characters, and the overall message of girl power. It reminded me a bit of Beauty Queens meets Glee.

That being said, this isn’t the kind of movie you can take too seriously. There were plot lines that began and died without going anywhere, but it’s okay because the movie didn’t take itself seriously either. It wasn’t afraid to poke fun at itself, and in doing so poked fun at the teen movie genre.

If there was anything that I would have changed, it would be that Anna Kendrick not look like Bella Swan because this is not that movie. But other than that this is definitely a great movie to drag your bgffs (best girl friends forever) to. I think this movie will be what Clueless was to the 90s and Bring it On was to the 2000s.

I can’t wait to see this! I’m a total choir geek too so this is right up my alley 🙂

My husband laughs every time he sees the pirate dance in the trailer. I may take him to see this one. 🙂

If you do, let me know what he thinks of it. It’s definitely aimed at a teenage girl audience, but I feel like “teenage boy” movies are enjoyable to everyone so why not?

OMG this movie was hilarious. You are so right to compare it to Glee/Beauty Queens. I could have done without the projectile vomit scenes, but otherwise this is a movie I’d go see again. The whole theater was cracking up.

  5. I like the sound of Beauty Queens meets Glee. Will definitely check this out!
