Meghan went to Nuit Blanche!

This weekend two of my Leaky friends drove up, and we went to Nuit Blanche in Toronto. Specifically, we attended the event hosted by gunnarolla and Andrew Bravener “Comment, Like Subscribe.” It was an interactive youtube event with different musical guests every hour. It was one of the greatest nights of my life, and I will give you the three reasons why so that maybe you can have an equally fantastic time some day.

1. Great Friends

This weekend I felt like I was part of the greatest nerd roadtrip flick of all time. Amazing conversation? Check. Fantastic sing-a-longs? Checks. Plenty of Tim Horton’s? Double check. You see, going to events, but it’s who you share it with that really matters. Find people who share your interests, and then do stuff with them. I know this seems like really simple advice, but it’s really easy to just spend time with the same people because they are the ones who are around (and that’s not necessarily a bad thing!), but don’t just hang around with people you have nothing in common with because you feel like they’re are the only ones available to you. They’re not.

2. Great Performers

I saw several different performers during the night, and they were all fantastic, but here are the three that blew my mind.

i. Chris Tsujiuchi

Chris did a musical-comedy combination with a powerful message. He was hilarious and a fantastic performer. I left his hour smiling from ear to ear feeling as if I could be a better person and that I WANTED to be a better person.

ii. Mitchel Moffit

Mitchel did something that my friends called “live mixing.” Basically, he would record clips of his voice and then mix them to create what I can only describe as heavenly. Here’s a recording of one of the songs he performed. It’s not as great as the live experience of actually listening to him, but at least you can get a taste of how fantastic this guy is. I left his hours feeling like I was going to cry, and I was not the only one.

iii. ALEX CARPENTER

Alex Carpenter is the whole reason I attended this event. I have been a long time fan of this man because he is the most beautiful of human beings. I never dance as hard as I do when Alex is at the mic. You should check out his music, but especially if you love Harry Potter, the Hunger Games, Doctor Who, LOST, and cool people.

3. Attitude

The last thing that made this amazing night possible was going in believing the night would be amazing. I went into the night prepared to have fun, to talk to people, to enjoy myself. I know that sounds like a really simple thing, but as an introvert it’s really not. In general, crowds of people terrify me because I feel as if I’m constantly being judged, but if you let your fears or the things that make you uncomfortable hold you back you will miss out on so much.

I don’t know how long this good attitude will last, but I know that I’m going to do my best to live my life for me. Thanks to all who attended Nuit Blanche for helping me to realize that.
